How to Measure Guide:

How to get an accurate

measurement of your pet:

Note: Harlow & Grace apparel & accessories are within 1 inch, accurate measuring of your pet is necessary. Please measure exactly and then re-measure for accuracy.

Using a soft measuring tape (one generally used in sewing) carefully measure your pet as shown below. Make sure the tape measure is snug, but not too tight. It is imperative your dog be standing in a relaxed position when measuring. (A dog in a sitting position will not be able to be accurately measured. Nor can a stressed dog be accurately measured – a stressed dog may either suck in or puff out its chest and produce an inaccurate size reading, resulting in a garment that is too tight or too loose in the chest area for normal daily wear.)

Neck: The neck should be measured where a collar would normally rest.

Chest: Measure the chest’s widest point (generally 1” behind the front legs).

Topline: From the base of the neck where the collar sits to where the tail connects with the body.

Height: From the highest point at shoulder to the floor.

Ankle: Measure around the ankle directly above the top of the foot.

Weight/Breed: Sizing is not based on weight or breed alone, though noting the weight and breed of your pet when ordering contributes to a more accurate fit.

FOR BELLY BANDS, TUTU SKIRTS, PETTICOATS, AND TWO PIECE APPAREL/SKIRT ITEMS:

Lower Girth (waist): Approximately 1-2 inches in front of back legs. (For Belly Bands, Tutu Skirts, Petticoats, & Two Piece Apparel (skirt) items)

FOR SCARVES:

Measure around the neck as you would for a collar…not too tight, not too loose. Scarves are available in sizes: xsmall, small, medium, and large. --> NOTE: Custom length must include the height of the dog from top of shoulder to floor (Final scarf length from floor will be adjusted by Harlow & Grace for an appropriate fit). See diagram/chart at left.

FOR FASCINATORS/HATS (with chin straps):

Between Ears: Measure across the top of the head between the ears – from ear to ear.

Chin Strap: Measure from where the right ear connects with the head, under the chin and back up to where the left ear connects with the head (measure how you would want the chin strap to fit, which should be snug but not too tight).

THE EXTENDER™ Furthering the perfect look and best fitting pet garment, Harlow & Grace Canine Couture also has The Extender available. Like people, dogs come in a wide variance of body shapes, sometimes with excessive weight in some body areas. Often times a garment may fit a dog perfectly in the neck and length but be a little snug in the chest area. To go up in size may give the garment an ill-fitting overall look. The Extender allows for up to 2” of expansion in the chest or neck area on Velcro closure garments.
